If there’s a road to pave, asphalt to lay or a surface to smooth, B & J Excavating of Downingtown, PA, is armed for the job with a new Blaw-Knox PF-4410.

The paver, purchased from Elliott & Frantz Inc., King of Prussia, PA, allows B & J to offer one-stop shopping. An excavating contractor since 1983, B&J recently expanded its operations with the paving division.

“We want to handle the job from beginning to end, and this gives us the total package for the clients,” said Mike Bartsch, president of B & J.

Replacing an older Blaw-Knox paver, Bartsch said the Ultimat screed on the PF-4410 has been delivering great results. The 8 ft. (2.44 m) extendible, vibratory screed provides variable, on-the-go paving width flexibility with uniform compaction and surface texture across the entire mat width. The screed, power extendable to 16 ft. (4.8 m.), features electric heat elements that eliminate the fumes associated with diesel burners.

B & J is currently using the paver on the Goshen Corporate Office Park for asphalt overlay. So far, said Bartsch, the PF-4410, is delivering a smoother mat.

“The machine does a lot of the work for you, and limits the amount of crew you need on site,” he said. “It’s a fabulous machine, and it’s performed very well.”

Bartsch added that the service and support from Elliott & Frantz has been second-to-none. B & J has been looking to Elliott & Frantz for its equipment needs over the past 10 years.

“B &J is a first-class outfit, and we’re proud to be associated with them,” said Elliott & Frantz’s Steve White. “With the newest technology on this paver, B & J is doing the highest quality work. They know that this state-of-the-art equipment will give them the best results.”
