Construction Equipment Guide

The Komatsu PC650LC-8, with a flywheel horsepower of 429 hp (320 kW), is powered by a Komatsu SAA6D140E-5 engine. The electronically controlled HPCR (high pressure common rail) fuel injection system is EPA Tier III emissions certified, provides low noise operation and remains fuel efficient while delivering power and productivity. The operating weight is 143,000 lbs. (64,864 kg), which provides maximum stability and comfort, allowing operators to maintain fast cycle times as well as high levels of productivity, according to the manufacturer.

The PC650LC-8 is equipped with KOMTRAX, which sends machine operating information to a secure Web site utilizing wireless technology. Data such as operating hours, location, cautions and maintenance alerts are relayed to the web application for analysis. The KOMTRAX fleet monitoring system increases machine availability, reduces the risk of machine theft, allows for remote diagnosis by the distributor, and provides a wealth of other information to drive business efficiency and productivity.

Special features of the PC650LC-8 include:

• Large Multi-Color Monitor

The easy-to-view 7 in. LCD monitor enables accurate smooth work and displays data in 25 languages for global support. There are three modes of operation that may be selected through the monitor panel: Power mode, economy mode, and lifting mode. The monitor panel also displays the automatic air conditioner, machine maintenance tracking and the image from the standard, counterweight-mounted rearview camera system.

• Enhanced Operating Efficiency Through Easy Maintenance and Serviceability

The PC650LC-8 provides easy service and maintenance access in order to reduce costly downtime. The machine is equipped with the exclusive Komatsu EMMS (equipment management monitoring system), which performs three main functions that are displayed on the large LCD color monitor. EMMS continually monitors all critical excavator systems, alerting and guiding the operator should an abnormality occur. EMMS often prevents a small problem from becoming a major service issue, contributing to reduced operation costs. The system tracks the preventative maintenance schedule, provides on-board tracking, and advises current required maintenance. EMMS also provides error codes and troubleshooting assistance to mechanics in order to minimize diagnosis and repair time.

• Built for Durability And Reliability

All major components on the PC650LC-8 including the engine, hydraulic pumps, motors, and control valves are exclusively designed and produced by Komatsu. The boom and arms exhibit long-term durability and are highly resistant to bending and torsional stress due to large cross-sectional structures, thick high tensile strength steel, interior partition walls, and large one piece castings. Komatsu frames are designed using the most advanced three-dimensional CAD and FEM analysis technology, according to the manufacturer.

Electronic components such as controllers, connectors, sensors and wiring have undergone extensive testing to ensure reliability in the harshest conditions. The electronic connectors are DT-type and seal against dirt and moisture. All hydraulic cylinders are protected by metal guard rings for additional reliability. Hydraulic hoses are equipped with O-ring seals versus conventional taper seals to provide extended leak-free life. The standard high pressure in-line filters at the pump outlet port provide an extra level of protection to the hydraulic system. Long replacement intervals for hydraulic oil, engine oil, and filters keep the machine up and running for increased hours on the job.

• Versatility to Match Different Job Applications

The PC650LC-8 comes equipped with two boom mode settings, three working modes, and Power Max control. These modes are designed to match engine speed, pump flow, and system pressure to specific application requirements, providing the operator with the flexibility to match equipment performance to the job at hand. In hard digging applications, a one-touch Power Max Function increases digging force by 7 percent for 8 seconds.

• Cab Enhancements Provide Comfortable Working Environment

A wide spacious cab with a high back operator seat provides support and comfort for reduced fatigue and higher productivity. The multi-position, PPC (pressure proportional control) levers and armrest integrated with the console levers allow the operator to work in comfort while maintaining precise control.

The highly pressurized cab keeps dust from entering the operator’s compartment, while its rigid frame offers wide visibility and has excellent sound absorption. The multi-layer viscous cab mounting system incorporates longer stroke and the addition of a spring. Combined with a high rigidity deck, the new cab damper mounting reduces noise and vibration levels at the operator seat. A high capacity automatic heater/defroster/air conditioning system is incorporated into the new monitor panel and is provided as standard equipment.
