Construction is scheduled to begin in 2018 on Live! Hotel & Casino Philadelphia, a $600 million hotel, gaming, dining and entertainment destination in South Philadelphia. This project is under the direction of Stadium Casino LLC, a joint venture between The Cordish Companies and Greenwood Racing Inc. (GRI).

According to the The Cordish Companies' website, the venue will feature 2,000 slot machines; 125 table games; a more than 200-room boutique hotel; locally and nationally-recognized restaurants; and live entertainment venues.

Due to the casino's proximity to major roadways, a 2,600-space parking garage will be built. The site also will be accessible by public transportation, including SEPTA's Broad Street line and some bus routes.

According to information on 500nations.com, the project was given the go-ahead from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board in 2014. Due to a lawsuit by another local casino, the project was put on hold for three years. In August 2017 in a second vote, the GCB unanimously approved the project but lawsuits persisted. In October, a new Pennsylvania gambling expansion law passed, removing issues that delayed construction, ending the pending lawsuits.

The new casino will be located on 9 acres in the heart of the Stadium District in South Philadelphia, on the site of the former Holiday Inn hotel and conference center and the surrounding area.

XFINITY Live!, The Cordish Companies' dining and entertainment district, is located in the vicinity of the new casino and hotel. Together, the Philadelphia project will create the first comprehensive gaming, resort, entertainment and sports destination in the United States, making it a true regional destination.

Cordish operates other venues across the country, including Maryland Live! and sites in Atlantic City, N.J., Houston, Texas, and Kansas City, Mo. GRI runs the Parx Casino in nearby Bensalem, Pa., and the Atlantic City Race Course.
