On April 27, Associated Builders & Contractors, Inc. (ABC), honored the winners of its national skills competition, the National Craft Championships at the ABC National Education Conference in San Antonio, Texas. The results showed that ABC Keystone members have top ranked carpentry and plumbing apprentices among the entire nation.
The competition, featuring 132 competitors, took place over two days, April 25 and April 26. ABC Keystone was represented by Dave Porter of Wohlsen Construction Company (Lancaster), Matt Woodcraft of Haller Enterprises Inc. (Lititz) and Colton Kreider of Garden Spot Electrical (Manheim).
ABC Keystone added two more medal winners to its growing list of National Craft champions:
Gold: Dave Porter in Carpentry, Residential/Commercial — Wohlsen Construction Company (Lancaster)
Silver: Matt Woodcraft in Plumbing, Residential/Commercial — Haller Enterprises Inc. (Lititz)
“With apprentices like these three young men, our future certainly looks bright,” said G. David Sload, ABC Keystone director of education and apprenticeship committee staff liaison, “Our best assets that we have are our employees. We need to continue to train and encourage our young apprentices about the opportunities our industry holds.”
Prizes Awarded for First Place (Gold) included: $750 from ABC National; 18 volt drill/reciprocating saw combo from Hilti North America.
Prizes Awarded for Second Place (Silver) included: $500 from ABC National; 18 volt drill/reciprocating saw combo from Hilti North America.
Special thanks went to Bill Lastinger of Benchmark Construction Co. Inc. (Brownstown) for coordinating and running the three months of training, chaperoning the competitors at the National competition and recruiting the following training mentors:
