ASV extends its rubber track undercarriage technology to the utility vehicle market with the introduction of the ST-50 rubber tracked utility vehicle. Targeted to a host of new users and applications, the ST-50 is designed to bridge both commercial and recreational applications.

The ST-50 supersedes the former 50 hp (37.3 kW) Scout SC-50 that was originally introduced in 2006.

The ST-50’s suspended undercarriage gives it the traction and the flotation to go just about anywhere, and with four torsion axles suspending the undercarriage, the ride is exceptionally smooth for a tracked machine, according to the manufacturer.

The ST-50’s undercarriage uses 24 rubber idler wheels that spread the machine’s weight over the entire length and width of its tracks. As a result, the machine’s 4,562 lbs. (2,069 kg) operating weight is distributed down to only 2.38 psi (16.4 kPa) of ground pressure. That is about half the ground pressure of a person on foot. With such low ground pressure the ST-50 can work productively in soft or wet ground conditions which are impenetrable by conventional wheeled utility vehicles. This makes the ST-50 the ideal machine for contractors and companies that need to be productive all year around regardless of weather and ground conditions.

Not only can the ST-50 take operators where other utility vehicles cannot go, but it can go farther. With a 30-gal. (113.5 L) fuel capacity, the ST-50 runs for long periods of time. The ST-50’s towing and hauling capacity will let operators bring all the materials needed for the job. The rear deck is designed to haul whatever is necessary including an optional hydraulic dump box or a four-person personnel carrier. The deck can accommodate a large amount of heavy cargo and a wide range of attachments from other manufacturers.

Unlike other tracked vehicles the ST-50 uses a steering wheel. A quick shift pedal provides fast and accurate control of the machine’s forward/reverse hydrostatic drive system. A certified Roll Over Protection Structure (ROPS) is standard. Hydrostatic two-speed drive lets operators choose high torque for pulling and hauling, or high speed for faster travel. A console-mounted joystick allows precise control of options like the dump box and snow blade.

The ST-50 is designed to have a 5,000-lb. (2,268 kg) towing capacity. This hauling capacity is due to a combination of heavy- duty torsion axles, rugged frame, weight distribution and ASV undercarriage technology. The new ST-50 has been updated with a more industrial front and rear hitch for any towing and hauling need.

ASV offers three different exclusive track options. The ST-50’s standard tracks are 15-in. (38.1 cm) wide general-purpose tracks with moderate treads for optimum operation in the widest range of ground conditions. A special smooth turf track also is available.

The Turf Track offers low-impact performance when on the most sensitive or fragile surfaces and is the ideal choice for landscape or golf course contractors. For use in very wet or snowy conditions, when extra traction is needed, the new extreme terrain track is now available. This new track is 16.5-in. (42 cm) wide so it offers even more flotation than the standard track. In addition, it offers extra-deep treads for added traction over the worst ground conditions.

Other enhancements to the ST-50 over the former Scout SC-50 include a new skid plate configuration for easier servicing, new guard for the fan shroud, stronger engine shroud straps and improved air flow on the front grill for better cooling in extreme conditions.

The ST-50 is the first utility vehicle offered in ASV’s full line of products, which also includes the new PT Series rubber track loaders.
