Gehl Company’s new E-Series skid loader line consists of six new skid loaders ranging from the compact Model 3640E with a rated operating load of 1,175 lbs. (533 kg) to the Model 6640E with a rated operating load of 2,900 lbs. (1,315 kg) when equipped with the optional counterweights.

These new units are are built with acoustical materials and specially designed engine compartment components to lower sound levels, both inside and out.

The large operator compartments have ample head, shoulder and leg room, making operators more productive. The ROPS (Roll-Over Protection) cabs have Level II FOPS (Falling-Object Protection) built in for added operator protection. An optional deluxe suspension seat adjusts to the operator’s weight to provide more comfort. A choice of low-effort servo-hydraulic controls deliver precise response for added productivity. Factory air-conditioning is available on the larger models along with heaters on all models.

Deutz 2011 Series diesel engines are used in the larger models, and range from 46 hp (34 kW) on the 4640E to 82 hp (61 kW) on the 6640E. Turbocharged configurations are standard on the Model 6640E, and optional on Models 4640E and 5640E.

The Deutz engines include in-cylinder glow plugs to improve cold weather starting and auto-shutdown systems. The engine features include dependable oil cooling, low noise levels and high torque. They meet the latest EPA Tier II emissions regulations.

TNV Series Yanmar diesel engines are featured in the 3640E and 4240E skid loaders. A 35 hp (26 kW) naturally-aspirated 3-cylinder engine is used in the 3640E, and a 46 hp (34 kW) naturally-aspirated 4-cylinder is used in the 424QE. These engines with Tier II emissions certifications are direct-injected, liquid-cooled designs.

Gehl offers a two-speed drive option with top speeds of more than 11 mph (18 kmh) on the 4640E and 4840E, and up to 12.5 mph (20 kmh) on the 5640E and the 6640E skid loaders. An extended wheelbase of more than 48 in. (122 cm) on the Model 6640E, and lower center-of-gravity, combined with the optional Hydraglide ride control system, deliver a smoother, more stable ride.

With a high-flow auxiliary hydraulics option up to 36 gpm (136 Lpm) on the 5640E and 6640E models, these skid loaders have the pressure and flow necessary for increased attachment performance. A lift height of more than 124 in. (315 cm) on the Model 6640E provides for high lifting and dumping abilities. Combined with the standard hydraulic self-leveling feature, operators can make quick and sure bucket and pallet fork actions while lifting loads.

The All-Tach universal-type quick-attach system makes changing attachments fast and easy. For added convenience, Gehl offers an optional Power-A-Tach system that lets users quickly connect and disconnect attachments without leaving the seat on the four larger models.

As with all Gehl skid loaders, the E-Series offers easy access for routine service. The engine cover has a gas-spring assist for easy lifting, while the ROPS/FOPS cab structure is easily pivoted up and out of the way by a single person. Removable belly plates also enhance serviceability, according to the manufacturer.

“The E-Series skid loaders include our Powerview lift arm for better visibility, high breakout forces, powerful engines, exceptional hydraulic power, comfortable operator stations with a choice of controls, and a host of innovative features that make working long hours easier,” said Kelly Moore, product manager of Gehl skid loaders.

“The E-Series loader is the ideal machine for operators who need high power but also need a compact unit for getting in and out of tight spots in construction, landscape or agriculture applications.”

The drive train on models 4640E, 4840E, 5640E and 6640E feature heavy-duty components; adjustments can be made to the simple “bow tie” chain system from outside the unit.
