Allied Construction Industries (ACI), the Cincinnati Division of the Associated General Contractors of Ohio, and the Cincinnati Area U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) have entered into a partnering agreement focused on safety training. The common objective of the agreement is to provide a safe and healthful work environment for employees engaged in construction activities in the Greater Cincinnati/Southwestern Ohio/Tri-State area, and to prevent serious accidents through increased training and implementation of enhanced safety and health programs. Through this cooperative and voluntary program, work-site hazards and serious injuries can be reduced at Tri-State job sites.
Judy Short, executive director of the Allied Construction Industries said, “We are most excited about this because it is training-base. OSHA will acknowledge the contractors who have a commitment to safety and willfully agree to be part of the program. ACI has been working out the details of this agreement since November of 1998 and is pleased with OSHA’s covenant to participate.”
The partnering agreement between OSHA and ACI was formally endorsed Feb. 11, 2000 by OSHA Regional Administrator Michael G. Connors and area OSHA Director William Murphy at the Cincinnati OSHA office.
Parties representing ACI are ACI President Robert Wassler (Schumacher Dugan Construction); ACI Safety Committee Chair Stephen Spaulding (Turner Construction); ACI Partnering Sub-Committee Chair Hal Scalf (Industrial Design Corporation); ACI Executive Director Judith Trotter Short; and ACI Safety Director Terry Phillips.
