The Alabama AGC North Section office is open at 7800 Madison Blvd., Suite 204, Madison, AL 35806. The phone number is 256/722-5595.

AGC staff member Darrell Henry, a native of Huntsville, is working full time in the section, said Bill Caton, director of membership and public relations.

“He will be calling on contractors, assessing needs and working on membership,” Caton said. “We also are planning to offer training in multiple crafts in the area and Darrell will help facilitate that.

“Darrell has worked several years in our construction services division as a safety and loss control consultant. His most recent job there was as a training coordinator, so we are expecting him to be able to offer a wide range of services in the North Section.”

Caton said that AGC’s craft education arm, the Construction Education Foundation of Alabama (CEFA), also will be offering craft education in a wide variety of trades from heavy equipment operation, to carpentry to electrical. CEFA recently received a $500,000 grant from the state and hopes to offer training at a reduced rate, possibly half price with contractors paying for one apprentice and getting to train two.

“CEFA uses the NCCER curriculum and can modify that to fit the needs of our contractors,” Caton said.

“In general, the new office will allow the Alabama AGC to offer a wide range of much-needed services to our North Section,” he said. “We’ll be looking for input from our membership on what those services should be.”

Work is ongoing to buy property in the Madison area, said Alabama AGC President Henry Hagood.

“We plan to lease space for a period of time and then possibly build an office in the North Section,” Hagood said. “Our goal is to find a piece of property with high visibility along an interstate.”
