Following the success of the XAS 185 iT4, the Atlas Copco XAS 185 Tier IV Final portable air compressor was launched The new XAS is suitable for a range of high free air delivery applications, such as those for pneumatic tools, and for customers in the rental industry and municipal operations, according to the manufacturer.

Like its predecessor, the XAS 185 iT4, the Tier IV Final version is a single axle, oil-injected rotary screw compressor that delivers 185 cfm at 100 psi operating pressure. The XAS 185 Tier IV Final model is powered by either a 49 hp Kubota or Caterpillar engine, which are both fully compliant with current EPA emissions regulations.

Fitted with a stepless, fully automatic unloader valve and speed regulator, the XAS 185 Tier 4 Final constantly varies the engine speed according to the air demand, reducing fuel consumption and emissions.

The new XC2003 electronic controller, which is located at the rear of the machine for quick access, ensures that the XAS 185 Tier IV Final is easy to operate in the field. The XC2003 controller is intuitive and user-friendly, while improving on machine operational and diagnostic functions.

An option offered by Atlas Copco for the XAS 185 Tier IV Final is the impact-resistant HardHat canopy that resists corrosion and fading. The HardHat protects the compressor from damage at the work site, potentially reducing the time and cost of repair. This makes the model a good choice for the rental industry.

"The introduction of the XAS 185 Tier IV Final is a clear example of Atlas Copco moving the industry forward," said Robert Johnston, factory product manager, Atlas Copco Portable Energy. "The Tier IV Final model improves on today’s XAS 185 platform, which is renowned in the industry as a true leader. It is designed with economic and eco-friendly features in mind as proven by its status as one of the most efficient air ends in the compressor industry. Lower running costs and a higher resale value ensure a lower total cost of ownership as well."
