The Steel City again proved a great setting to shop for iron where, for the fifth consecutive year, the Pittsburgh Construction Expo was held Feb. 5 and 6 at the ExpoMart in Monroeville, Pa.

New and repeat visitors, as well as first time and veteran exhibitors enjoyed two days of meeting up, exchanging numbers and making sales.

Chrysler Dodge Kia of White Oak, Pa., was one of those exhibitors coming away with big sales. According to Jim Miller, commercial division representative, his company sold a 1500 pickup, a Dodge 2500 pickup and a Mitsubishi chassis.

“We’ve been exhibiting at the Pittsburgh Construction Expo for several years now and I’ve never come away from this show without selling something,” he said. “The guy who bought the 2500 Dodge pickup comes to this expo for the sole purpose to buy from us. The show is always a tremendous draw.”

Whether they were equipment dealers, associations, unions or providers of construction-related services, the more than 100 exhibitors reported experiencing heavy traffic and making sales and/or compiling a long list of potential leads.

A staple of CEG Productions trade shows is abundant door prizes and among the many prize winners over the course of the two-day expo were two grand prize drawings. Terri Polenik of TAP Development Corp. won a weekend getaway to Seven Springs Mountain Resort, donated by Construction Equipment Guide, and Tom Murray of Murray Landscaping, took home a 4-in-1 bucket or root grapple, donated by Construction Implements Depot.

Next up on Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 27 and 28, the 9th annual Philadelphia Construction Expo will be held for the second straight year at the Greater Reading Expo Center in Reading, Pa. Show hours will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday. The Greater Reading Expo Center, which is located at 2525 North 12th Street, boasts 85,000 sq. ft. of exhibit space. See page 136 for the complete exhibitor listing.

For those looking to pad their wallets and gain some bragging rights over their peers, we will again be hosting a backhoe rodeo.
