Caterpillar has signed a lease through April 2019 at the tallest building in Tucson to serve as a temporary office space during construction of the company's Surface Mining & Technology division's new headquarters.

The company will move into the first and second floors (a total of 26,093 sq. ft.) at 1 S. Church Ave., Tucson.com reported. According to a Caterpillar human resources manager, the company's other temporary office location is full.

Construction on Caterpillar's new division headquarters, located west of Interstate 10, should be complete by March 2019, Tucson.com reported.

"We are excited to welcome Caterpillar to our building," said Zach Fenton, managing partner of 1SC Partners, who own the building. "We think they are a great addition to the downtown Tucson community."
