Brian N. Tobin, executive director of the New Jersey Asphalt Pavement Association (NJAPA) and the Associated General Contractors of New Jersey (AGC of NJ), was recently named a 2008 Forty Under 40 recipient. The awards program is produced by NJBIZ, a New Jersey business news publication.

The Forty Under 40 awards program honors men and women who have been making headlines in their field and who share a commitment to business growth, professional excellence and the community.

“This is a tremendous honor for me,” said Tobin. “This recognition of the hard work that I perform on behalf of an industry that is so vital to the infrastructure and quality of life for the residents of the state of New Jersey is overwhelming.”

As executive director of the associations, Tobin has been responsible for the day-to-day operations of two of the state’s premiere construction associations to ensure quality product and projects and a competitive marketplace. His work with the state’s unions and owners has enabled his membership to work progressively and productively.

A lifelong New Jerseyan, Tobin grew up in East Amwell and graduated magna cum laude from Rutgers College, where he remains active in the Rutgers Alumni Association as a contributing writer for 1766, the RAA alumni magazine and a member of the Communications Committee. Tobin now lives in Metuchen, where he is treasurer of the Metuchen Democratic Organization and serves on the borough’s zoning board.

Tobin was nominated for the award by the presidents of the AGC of NJ and NJAPA, Jeff Cruz and Steve Kurtz, respectively.

“We are pleased to see that Brian is receiving this recognition since he has been a tremendous asset for our industry,” stated Kurtz.

“Brian has been working diligently for the industry for over seven years and we have seen the benefits of his work that have strengthened both the industry and quality of life for the citizens of New Jersey,” added Cruz.

NJBIZ and the program sponsors honored this year’s 40 winners during an awards ceremony on Sept. 22, 2008, at the Palace at Somerset Park in Somerset, N.J.
