The G240 Tier IV Final model maximizes machine uptime with diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technologies.
Mon June 02, 2014 - National Edition
Doosan Portable Power has launched the company’s first Tier IV Final generator — the G240WCU — which includes a new control panel for easier operation and enhanced design for reliability in the harshest of job site environments.
"The launch of this Tier IV Final Doosan generator is evidence of our company’s continued leadership in Tier changes," said Wyatt Franks, assistant product marketing manager, North American generators, Doosan Portable Power. "There are multiple methods and technologies that can be implemented to reach Tier IV Final certification, but the Doosan difference will continue to be that we are combining the right technologies — pairing industry-leading components that provide our customers with the most reliable, durable and productive models for their job sites."
The G240 includes a reconfigured control panel with a newly integrated digital controller, the DynaGen TG-410 rugged controller. The panel combines multiple machine parameters into one easy-to-decipher display, allowing users efficient access to machine information. A telematics feature is included, which allows users remote access to desired information. Easy operation is further enhanced with onboard engine diagnostics and simple engine emission controls.
The G240 Tier IV Final model maximizes machine uptime with diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technologies, wherein particulate matter and hydrocarbons are captured and broken down in the DOC. The exhaust is then conditioned by diesel exhaust fuel, and nitrous oxide is separated in the SCR to achieve near-zero emissions, meeting Tier IV Final regulations and providing customers with uninterrupted machine performance.
The G240 Tier IV Final joins the Doosan mobile generator line — one of the industry’s quietest and coolest generators, due to a dual-enclosure design that separates the powertrain and cooling system. The design utilizes radial cooling fan technology, which protects against overheating, extending component lifespan, and enhancing generator performance in even the most extreme temperatures.
The model is equipped with a three-position voltage configuration, plus an additional 600 V option through the Doosan Quad Voltage feature, allowing users to select the most appropriate voltage by application, thereby conserving power and fuel. Users can select from among 120/240V-1Ø; 208V-3Ø; 480V-3Ø; and 600V-3Ø. The voltage configuration also includes the industry’s only operation protection scheme that prevents users from inadvertently switching voltage during operation, a common cause of downtime and component failure. Further enhancing generator versatility is a dual-frequency switch, which allows users to select from 50 to 60 hertz via the flick of a switch.
Operation and maintenance on the G240 is made safe with curbside-located battery, fuel and air filters, oil fill and fuel fill — a service-point design that keeps operators safe from traffic in urban applications. Machine uptime is maximized with 500-hour service intervals.
The G240 is powered by a Cummins QSB7-G6 Tier IV Final, 282-hp engine, with a fuel tank capacity of 368 gal. for 26 hours’ runtime at 100 percent load, a 5 percent increase in runtime over the Tier IVi technology. The G240 Tier IV Final is equipped with a Leroy-Somer alternator with AREP excitation protecting against overload and short-circuit and encouraging voltage stability and greater motor-starting capability.
Doosan Portable Power generators are designed to withstand rugged transportation and job site needs. Built on heavy-duty skid bases with integrated 24-hour fuel cells, the generators boast a heavy-gauge, galvannealed steel enclosure and tandem-axle running gear for easy towing. Each generator also comes standard with the Doosan environmental containment system, which allows users to focus on the job at hand without concern for possible fuel or oil spills or job site contamination, according to the manufacturer.
Options available that further enhance reliability, autonomous operation and operator peace of mind include a Rodo Deaco positive air shutoff valve to protect against engine runaway or ignition; Webasto preheat engine system for reliable performance in extreme temperatures; an oil level maintainer; external diesel exhaust fuel hookup; remote fuel values; the Tundra Package, which provides reliable performance in temperatures down to minus 40F/C; and LoJack stolen vehicle recovery system.
