East Manufacturing figured its unconventional trailer concept would create a lot of interest and comment at the Mid America Truck Show in March. So it decided to capture on video what people had to say when they visited the East booth and first saw the Genesis Hybrid — a unique combination of the two dump trailer designs currently available, square-box and round-bottom.

“Since the Genesis Hybrid trailer is so radically different than anything else on the market, we wanted to do a video that captured first impressions,” said Charlie Wells, director of dump trailer products at East Trailers. “We asked people who visited our booth if we could record their comments to put on our Web site and the Internet. Almost everyone we asked at the show agreed to participate, and then they just spoke their mind. Everything was natural and totally unrehearsed. We strung the unedited comments together in the video, but we did not include any comments that included reference to any of our competitors,” said Wells.

The Genesis Hybrid trailer was designed to answer customer requests for a dump trailer with a lighter tare weight, like a half-round, yet with the better handling and stable dumping characteristics of a square-box dump trailer. The result is the Genesis Hybrid — a square-box trailer with a round bottom.

The new frameless dump trailer offers multiple benefits:

  • Total weight in the 9,500 to 10,000 lbs. (4,309 to 4,536 kg) range, depending on options.
  • 2 plus yards greater capacity than a traditional half-round trailer, for greater payload opportunity.
  • A center-of-gravity that’s 7 plus in. lower than a traditional half-round for better cornering/better stability.
  • A stronger, more rigid body for increased stability and more resistance to body twisting.

The Genesis Hybrid is currently undergoing road testing. East expects the trailer will be ready for sale by mid-summer.
