Elon Musk's Boring Company will be one step closer to a working loop system, come December. According to a tweet from Musk, the company plans to unveil a portion of one of its tunnels beneath Los Angeles on Dec. 10, USA Today reported.
This structure, which is located between downtown Los Angeles and Torrence, Calif., has been dubbed a "test tunnel" by the Boring Company, and serves as a model for the company's loop system. The tunnel starts on SpaceX's property in Los Angeles and spans two miles, USA Today reported.
According to a follow-up tweet from Musk, the unveiling will include an "opening event that night & free rides for the public the next day."
When complete, the loop system will use electric "skates" attached to either pods that will fit between 8 and 16 passengers, or cars, to move through a network of tunnels at speeds up to 150 mph.
