Built for a variety of conditions from rough-terrain construction sites to landfills, Komatsu’s HM400-2 articulated dump truck builds on Komatsu’s features such as hydropneumatic front and rear suspension, 2-stage lift cylinders, wet multiple disc brake retarder and maintenance free oscillating hitch.
Komatsu’s new articulated dump truck features an SAA6D140E-5 turbocharged, aftercooled diesel engine which provides an increase in the maximum net output to 438 hp (327 kW). The new engine meets both EPA Tier III and EU stage 3A emission regulations. The environmentally friendly machine has reduced ambient noise levels and lead free radiators. The easy-to-load body has a heaped capacity of 29.2 cu. yd. (22.3 cu m) and a low loading height of 9 ft. 9 in. (3 m).
The HM400-2 is equipped with the latest Komtrax technology, which sends machine operating information to a secure Web site using wireless technology. Hour meter, location, cautions and maintenance alerts — to name a few of its features — are relayed to the web application for analysis. The Komtrax fleet monitoring system increases machine availability, reduces the risk of machine theft, allows for remote diagnosis by the distributor, and provides a wealth of other information to drive business efficiency and productivity, according to the manufacturer.
Maximum Productivity at Low Cost
High torque at low speed, enhanced acceleration and low fuel consumption ensure maximum productivity of the HM400-2. The new dump truck features the Komatsu designed electronically controlled countershaft transmission with K-ATOMiCS. This system assures smooth shifts without shock and maximizes power train life. The electronic clutch modulation system ensures proper clutch pressure when the clutch is engaged, and the total control system controls both the engine and transmission by monitoring the vehicle conditions.
The engine power mode selection system makes it easy to select the appropriate mode depending on the working condition: power mode for job sites where the truck meets high resistance and economy mode for light work on the flat ground. Provisions for tailgates are standard for faster and more cost effective means of attaching tailgates in the field.
Enhanced Operator Comfort and Productivity
The HM400-2 features a wide, comfortable cab with electrically operated windows for better visibility and improved production and safety. The ergonomically designed operator’s compartment makes it easy and comfortable for the operator to access all controls, ensuring maximum operator confidence and productivity. An integrated cab and floor provide an airtight cab and reduce noise. The cab now includes two front under view mirrors and four rear view mirrors as well as an electric heated rear window to facilitate defrosting. Dumping is now easier with an electric, low effort body dump control lever and a standard dump counter makes it easier for the operator to track daily production.
Reduced Service Time Increases Productivity
The HM400-2 is designed to keep service time down and productivity up with a reduced number of grease points, easy access to filters and longer intervals between oil changes. The cab can be tilted rearward 32 degrees to make it easy to service the engine and transmission. The number of grease points has been minimized by using maintenance-free rubber bushings. For maximum protection, the truck features a new protective grille for the rear window as well as a heavy-duty transmission guard.
