Fluor Corporation announced Dec. 4 that it was selected by Ontario Power Generation (OPG) for the procurement and construction of refurbishment work at OPG's Darlington Nuclear Generating Station in Ontario, Canada. Fluor will book the undisclosed contract value in the fourth quarter of 2017.

Fluor's scope will include the replacement of emergency power generators for Units 1 and 2. The replacements are part of site safety and infrastructure projects underway to refurbish the power station. The new emergency power generators will replace the existing units that are approaching the end of their design life.

“The Darlington refurbishment program represents a significant investment in Ontario's economy and environment,” said Simon Nottingham, president of Fluor's Power business. “As a company with a long and diverse history in Canada, Fluor is honored to support OPG in extending the life of this important asset.”

Since the early 1990s, Darlington Nuclear Generating Station has produced approximately 20 percent of Ontario's electricity – representing more than two million homes each day. To continue reliable service, the facility is undergoing a mid-life refurbishment.
