Granite Construction Awarded $15.4 Million Interstate Reconstruction Project In Utah

Granite Construction Inc. recently announced that it has been awarded a $15.4 million contract by the Utah Department of Transportation for the asphalt overlay of 18.8 miles of I-80 from Echo Junction to Castle Rock, approximately 50 miles east of Salt Lake City, UT.

The scope of the project includes the removal and replacement of 18.8 miles of asphalt pavement on I-80. Removal consists of roto-milling (machine removal and grinding for a later recycle use) of 300,000 tons of asphalt and replacement with new overlay using 260,000 tons of asphalt. The job will also include seal-coating and all related barrier rail, fencing, striping and drainage systems.

Construction will begin mid-June 2001, with completion scheduled for November 15, 2001.
