In early June, Gardner Telecommunications Inc. (GTI) in Mesquite, Texas, was looking for a unit to handle a 2.5 mi. (4 km) AT&T cable relocation project on Highway 289, just north of Celina, Texas. GTI turned to Witch Equipment to meet its needs, purchasing a 2013 Ditch Witch JT 25 directional boring machine from the dealer, located in Fort Worth, Texas.
According to Project Supervisor Thong Bounthanh, depending on the soil conditions, they are able to bore between 500 and 1,000 ft. (154 and 305 m) per day.
“Our typical depth is between 9 feet and 14 feet even though we can operate at a minimum of 42 inches,” said Thong. “Using a 752 Subsite tracker beacon, we always know exactly the location of the drill pipe.”
GTI has experienced very little downtime using Ditch Witch equipment. “The product support capabilities of Witch Equipment are exemplary and whenever we have needed them, Witch Equipment has always had the part and the service to get us boring again,” said Thong.
“We have enjoyed a long relationship with Witch Equipment,” said Steve Gardner, owner of GTI. “With people like Rick Stiffler, our Witch Equipment representative, our every need is handled immediately and with professional care. This JT 25 is the 7th Ditch Witch machine we have purchased since 2000,” said Gardner. “With the Ditch Witch quality, machine capability and the level of service we have received from Witch Equipment since 1999, we hope to have another successful 14 years plus relationship.”
