Hoffman Sells Roadbuilding Units to Georgian Republic

Construction Equipment Guide

Hoffman International Inc., an exporter of heavy construction equipment, has just completed its first sale of roadbuilding equipment to the Republic of Georgia. The equipment includes one LeeBoy Elite II HD track paver, two Terex-Canica 80 V.S.I. crushers, and an Aesco-Madsden 6828 asphalt drum mixer plant. Total value of the equipment exceeds $700,000.

As is the case with all its international equipment sales, Hoffman specialists managed every detail of the transaction: purchasing/procurement; equipment inspection; domestic transportation; international documentation; and shipment to the Black Sea port of Poti, Georgia. The purchaser and roadbuilding project contractor is one of the largest companies in the Republic of Georgia, Georgia-Kuwait Road Ltd. This firm is a joint venture of the area’s two major construction companies.

Georgia, once part of the Soviet Union, became an independent republic in 1991, and a presidential republic with a new constitution in 1995. The nation’s 13,049-mi. (21,000 km) road network has deteriorated badly since independence. Now, with a combination of domestic funds and aid from the World Bank, the European Union, and the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, major road reconstruction projects are under way.

The Hoffman equipment will be used for rehabilitation of three sections of Georgia’s international road network, in a project costing $18.5 million. On the largest of the sections, a 35.4-mi. (57 km) road linking the cities of Smatredia and Grigoleti, the road constructors will utilize asphalt recycling technology, an important step in the introduction of modern, efficient road construction methods. (This one segment of the work is the largest single construction project in the Republic in the past 10 years.)

Hoffman International distributes the products of 23 machinery manufacturers overseas. The wide variety of equipment includes machines used for construction, lifting, concrete-handling and roadbuilding. The firm manages all the aspects of each export project with a team of international heavy-equipment sales and service specialists. Language and local customs are no barriers to Hoffman because many of its experts are multilingual, and have lived or traveled extensively in the countries where they now sell and service heavy equipment.
