Winch Trucks are most commonly used to lift or pull heavy objects by way of a component — or winch — which is often a powered spool of wound cable. You will find winch trucks used in oil fields, but also in areas with a lot of mud or water around to pull someone or something that has gotten stuck. Usually mounted on the front of a vehicle, winches also can be mounted on the rear of a vehicle. Another type of truck winch mounts behind the driver's cab, and it is used to haul vehicles or other items into the truck bed. Oil field winch trucks are used to load and unload drilling equipment, pumps and pipes. Winch trucks also often feature gin poles, which is a supported pole that uses a block and tackle or pulley to lift loads, similar to a mobile crane. Used winch trucks, including ones manufactured by Freightliner, International, Kenworth, Peterbilt and Western Star can be purchased by visiting Construction Equipment Guide’s “Used Winch Trucks for Sale” page.
