Intermountain Healthcare has donated $15 million to the University of Utah to pay for building a new medical education building.

The new building will replace the 52-year-old School of Medicine building on the Salt Lake City campus.

Construction is expected to begin in 2019 and is scheduled to be completed in 2022.

University officials said the current building is outdated and seismically unsound.

Intermountain Healthcare is a Salt Lake City-based hospital system.

Intermountain CEO Marc Harrison said the donation is part of the system's charitable mission of supporting the education of physicians and other medical professionals.
