JCB's 3CX compact delivers JCB's legendary backhoe loader performance and versatility, in a 35 percent smaller package, making it ideal for confined urban job sites and highway repair, according to the manufacturer.
The 3CX compact will be available with a front-end skid steer coupler, allowing customers to utilize a wide range of standard-flow hydraulic attachments. JCB also will offer a high-flow auxiliary hydraulic circuit, further boosting utilization for operators.
Key features include:
JCB Chief Innovation and Growth Officer Tim Burnhope said, “With the 3CX compact, JCB has condensed more than 60 years of backhoe loader expertise and market leadership into a machine that delivers all of the versatility, productivity and ease of use of the market-leading 3CX, with even more maneuverable dimensions.
“The small footprint and incredible all-round visibility is perfect for working in congested job sites, it's easy and intuitive to use, has great mobility and maneuverability and with servo controls, will suit operators of backhoes and excavators.
“With the 3CX compact we are delivering a real master of all trades. The addition of a skid steer coupler makes the 3CX compact even more versatile, allowing operators to get a higher return on their machinery investment and complete more projects, more efficiently.”
The 3CX compact combines the digging power and ease of use of a mini-excavator, with the capabilities of a compact wheeled loading shovel. Backhoe loader, mini-excavator and skid steer loader attachment compatibility allows the 3CX compact to work with the widest range of attachments and hand held tools, for maximum versatility and utilization.
Approximately 35 percent smaller than JCB's full size backhoe loaders, the 3CX compact is capable of high road speeds up to 25 mph (40 kmh). The machine is ideally suited to road resurfacing and repair, utilities, groundworkers and municipalities. Due to standard four-wheel steering, the 3CX compact has a turning circle of just 19 ft., less than the width of a two-lane road.
The machine also is ideal for niche applications such as cemeteries, where it can dig at 90 degrees, maneuver around headstones and lift burial vaults.
At the front end, the loader comes with a range of shovels that can be supplied with optional hard wearing toe plates for road stripping applications. A load over height of 9 ft. 9 in. (2.98 m) and forward reach at full height of 3 ft. 8 in. (1.11 m) allows easy loading of trucks. The machine also can be ordered with a hydraulic quickhitch, for faster attachment change.
The six-in-one shovel makes the 3CX compact the ideal machine for a host of jobs on site. The 3CX compact can be used with pallet forks, trenchers, sweepers, rakes and a wide range of backhoe and skid steer attachments. In the third quarter of 2017, the 3CX compact will be offered with a 31.7 gpm (120 Lpm) high-flow auxiliary circuit, making it possible for operators to use an even broader range of attachments, including patch planers and other high-flow work tools, according to the manufacturer.
The high-flow circuit will be available with a multi-function, electronic front loader control lever, with integral proportional rocker switches and activation buttons. This will provide increased control of front-mounted attachments, boosting productivity and performance.
The 3CX compact is powered by a low emission Tier IV Final JCB diesel by Kohler engine, delivering 74 hp (55 kW). This highly efficient engine meets U.S. emissions standards without the need for a costly diesel particulate filter (DPF).
The engine drives through a three-speed hydrostatic transmission to all four wheels, for maximum traction in difficult site conditions. The hydrostatic transmission offers a 25 mph (40 kmh) top speed for travel between sites, 17 percent higher than the popular 2CX. The transmission also features a creep mode, allowing the operator to run at high engine rpm to power high-flow attachments such as road planers, with maximum travel speeds of just 2.2 mph (3.5 kmh).
The hydrostatic transmission eliminates the need for a gearshift lever or a clutch, ensuring maximum ease of use. Heavy-duty JCB axles with an optional limited slip differential reduce wheel slip in tough conditions. An intelligent braking system disengages the transmission to increase efficiency and reduce component wear.
Optional shovel and stabilizer street pads are available to prevent damage to the roadway. In combination with a hand-held hydraulic tool circuit and a host of high power attachments, such as breakers and patch planers, the 3CX Compact is the ideal machine for road maintenance. Parallel lift loader arms ensure maximum load retention and JCB's smooth ride loader suspension system (SRS) is standard, improving comfort for the operator and limiting spill from the front shovel.
As with the majority of JCB machines, the 3CX compact is supplied as standard with JCB's LiveLink telematic tracking and monitoring system. LiveLink allows the fleet manager to monitor the machine's performance and operating health remotely, with warnings of service and working issues.
