The 750 hp Nextel Cup stock cars were not the only machines making noise at the Bank of America 500 at Lowes Motor Speedway Oct. 12 and 13.
JCB wowed race fans by displaying a number of exhibits at the Busch Dollar General 300 and Nextel Cup Bank of America 500 races. On display at the event was the JCB GT dragster, which fired up its 1,300 hp engine and shot flames every hour entertaining race fans prior to each day’s race.
The JCB GT is equipped with a 572 cu. in. Chevy big block engine that has reached speeds of up to 114 mph and has recorded times of less than 15 seconds on a quarter-mile drag strip.
The JCB GT has been on tour across the country at various events.
After the crowd experienced the roar of the JCB GT, “Dancing Digger” driver Adam Howard amazed the viewers with backhoe stunts. Howard raised a JCB 3CX backhoe more than 25 ft. in the air and displayed the stability of the machine by laying it over on its side by using the boom, dipper and extra-dig while lifting the stabilizer completely off the ground.
Also on display at the JCB exhibition was the JCB HMEE-1 (High Mobility Engineering Excavator) military backhoe. The JCB HMEE-1 was developed to reduce the overall logistics footprint of the U.S. Army by eliminating the need for tractor-trailers to move support equipment around the area of operation.
With a speed capability of 60 mph, the JCB HMEE-I is able to keep up with even the fastest moving military convoys, both on and off the road. JCB has been contracted to supply the U.S. Army with more than 600 of these units by 2012.
“JCB recognizes many of our customers enjoy the thrill of NASCAR racing and are loyal followers of the sport. We are excited and pleased to have the opportunity to host customers and participate with JCB products in the nation’s largest spectator sport” said Jarrett Allred, JCB’s southeast dealer marketing manager.
“Events such as the Bank of America 500 also allow us to showcase machines that complement the sport such as our JCB GT Dragster as well as our JCB Dieselmax, which broke the land speed record in 2006 at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah by reaching speeds of over 350 mph. Not only are these machines entertaining, but they demonstrate the innovation behind our company.”
JCB hosted approximately 50 customers and dealer personnel at the Bank of America 500 as they watched Jeff Gordon take the checkered flag.
