J.F. Kiely Construction Co., a utility construction company headquartered in Long Branch, N.J., spends thousands of man hours annually to educate its team members on the importance of working safely and for a third consecutive year reports a record low Experience Modification Rating (EMR) of 0.394 from the New Jersey Compensation Rating and Inspection Bureau for its efforts.
“Lowering our EMR is a direct result of many hard working and dedicated team members,” said John M. Kiely, president of J.F. Kiely Construction Co. “Cultivating an environment of behavioral based safety that ensures the health and welfare of our team members and stakeholders remains a top priority,” Kiely continued.
About the Experience Modification Rating
The experience modification rating (e-mod) is a term used in the American insurance business and more specifically in workers' compensation insurance. The e-mod represents either a credit or debit that is applied to the premium before discounts. If your company's loss experience is more costly on the average than other company's loss experience in your industry, the result is a debit e-mod, or surcharge on premiums. If your company's experience is less costly than the industry average, you will receive a credit e-mod, or discount, on your premium. Usually three years of loss experience are used to determine the experience modifier for a workers' compensation policy. The three years typically do not include the immediate past year, but the three prior.
