JM Wood Auction held its big 50th Anniversary Auction March 21 through 24, 2023, at the company's Montgomery, Ala., headquarters.

Crowds of bidders from 49 states and 12 countries steadily flowed through the doors each day and bidding was extremely fast-paced and included a strong showing of online participants. In addition to the usual quantity of machines and trucks for any given JM Wood Spring Sale, this auction featured more than 250 hydraulic excavators.

The auction, which offered 5,224 lots of equipment, generated $138 million in gross sale with $48 million of that in online sales.

The sale's featured Seller was Eagle Excavating of Atlanta. The Phase One retirement sale included more than 200 late-model Caterpillar, John Deere and Komatsu machines that were sold to the highest bidder.

"We truly appreciate the trust that Tim and Adam Jones [Eagle Excavating] put in our team to handle their site prep retirement auction," said Bryant Wood. "Eagle's excavating machinery brought a premium at the auction purely based on their reputation for taking care of their fleet. The Jones family were first class to work with throughout the entire process and we wish them much continued success in their development and vertical building divisions."

Other featured sellers included: State of Alabama, Alabama Power, Georgia Power, Southern Nuclear, Baker, B.L. Harbert, Brasfield and Gorrie, Cleland Site Prep, C.W. Roberts, Gulf Services, Howard Sheppard, Joe McGee Construction, Robert Collins, Scott Bridge, Stanley Construction, Strack Inc., S.T. Bunn and Wiregrass Construction.

Featured items included a Cat D10T from Alabama Power Company that brought $615,000, and a Cat 815K brought $655,000.

JM Wood's next auction will be June 13-15, 2023, in Montgomery and will feature Phase 2 of the Eagle Excavating Retirement Auction. CEG
