Whether it’s the far eastern shores of the Hamptons on Long Island or the busy inner-city streets of the Bronx, Lindley Brothers Asphalt Paving Inc. meets the paving needs of island and city customers alike.

Throughout the island and New York City, Lindley has earned a solid reputation for its paving expertise with gas stations and cart paths in golf courses.

When paving the cart paths, the Northport, Long Island-company uses an older model Gehl 1649 paver, which it purchased from All Island Equipment, of West Babylon, NY.

On this machine, Lindley modified the screed to bring it down to a 7-ft. (2.1 m) paving width. Traditionally, Gehl has not offered a paver to pave at that width, but after the modification, Lindley has found that the Gehl paver ideally meets its needs out on the links.

Although much of Lindley’s work is commercial and industrial, it occasionally mixes in some residential projects, which is why the company recently purchased a LeeBoy 8500 paver from All Island Equipment.

Lindley uses the LeeBoy 8500 for its work on new housing developments, such as paving driveways, the streets within the development, entrances, walkways, and even tennis and basketball courts. Jeff Lindley, president, spoke of the 8500’s virtues:

“The machine paves at an incredible rate of speed, with an excellent mat. As far as I’m concerned, no one comes close to making a better mid-sized paver than LeeBoy. They [LeeBoy] have taken all of the features and engineering from very large pavers, and made them available for the mid-sized units. The other paving companies don’t do this, or even come close to doing this. The LeeBoy paver is a tremendous asset to our company.”

Jeff Lindley is particularly happy with the extended screed, which paves up to an 8 to 15-ft. (2.4 to 4.6 m) width, and the conveying system. “It’s a conveyor-fed machine that’s typically not available in this size category,” he said, adding that LeeBoy’s electronics are wonderful, giving his company tremendous paving tolerances on the job.

Lindley also enjoys working with All Island Equipment.

“I’ve been doing business with All Island for 20 years, and I really enjoy working with Gary Wade, their president. He [Wade] takes a tremendous amount of pride in what he does and the products that he sells. Gary truly understands paving and paving products. He’s taken the time to know my company’s needs and what our goals are. That’s very refreshing,” Lindley said.

A trusted working relationship between a contractor and a distributor means repeat business and Lindley and All Island are no exception. Over the years, Lindley has purchased four Interstate trailers, several Massey Ferguson and Fermec tractor loaders with grader boxes, the Gehl 1649 power box paver, and some Beuthling rollers. The first product Lindley Brothers purchased from All Island was a small Beuthling from Gary Wade’s father, Gus, in 1981.

With his brother, David, Jeff eventually took over the company from his father, and the company has enjoyed meteoric growth since. In 1985, Lindley Brothers bought another paving company that had extensive experience in commercial paving, which naturally led the company into this growing market.

Jeff Lindley attributes his company’s success to meticulous attention to detail.

“No matter how big or small the job is, we focus all of our attention on that particular job, and we work to get it well-engineered so that the project is perfectly completed to our customers’ satisfaction, each and every time,” he said. “We go out of our way to purchase the best equipment available on the market. We know that if we are operating with cutting-edge equipment and use the very best asphalt paving materials, that when we get done with a job, it’s going to meet our customer’s satisfaction.”

Creative marketing and helpful services provided through the business’ Web site (www.lindleybros.com) also have contributed to Lindley’s Long Island and New York City success. On this site, potential clients can find everything they need to know to make an educated decision about what their particular paving needs are. Visitors can click on a Client List to see who else has done business with Lindley, or view a project list, or request a bid.

It is this cohesive mixture of using the Internet to expand its potential, paying attention to customers’ needs, and developing a trusted relationship with a local distributor that will most likely keep Lindley Brothers in business for another 20 years.
