MacAllister Machinery Co., an exclusive dealer of Caterpillar brand heavy equipment, said June 16 that it will add 65 new jobs to its roster of 700 employees, more than a third of whom work in Marion County.

The heavy equipment supplier on Indianapolis’ east side, has 11 locations around the state.

MacAllister, founded in 1945, said it will invest more than $17 million to upgrade equipment and infrastructure, according to a news release from the Indiana Economic Development Corp.

The company plans to begin hiring additional diesel technicians later this year. MacAllister, located at 7515 E. 30th St., also has repair facilities throughout Indiana.

Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard thanked the MacAllister family for providing “quality employment opportunities” in the city, according to a prepared statement.

On MacAllister’s Web site, the company touts its versatility: It works with market-leading suppliers to assemble and maintain a large and varied product line for road building, moving 10-ton rocks and even planting shrubs.

The company also plans to boost its training for new and existing employees by using a $116,500 grant from the state’s skills enhancement fund.

“Work-force development is one of our strategic objectives for the next five years and beyond,” said Doug Clark, vice president of operations, MacAllister.
