The National Demolition Association announced the names of the recipients of seven college scholarships valued at $31,000. They were presented recently at the National Demolition Association Annual Convention in Las Vegas.
“We’re pleased to present these scholarships to students who have demonstrated a commitment to serve the local community while maintaining a high level of academic achievement,” said Michael R. Taylor, executive director.
The Bill and Wanda Baker Scholarship was awarded to Cassie Trujillo of Lovington, N.M. Louisiana Chemical Dismantling, Kenner, La., nominated Trujillo for the award. Joshua W. Griffin of Julian, N.C., received the Sims Hugo Neu Scholarship. D.H. Griffin Wrecking Co., Greensboro, N.C., nominated Griffin.
Rebecca Doll of Cincinnati, Ohio, was awarded the Southern California Chapter of the National Demolition Association Scholarship. She was nominated by King Wrecking Co., Cincinnati, Ohio. Kevin J. Schmitt of Martinez, Calif., received the Patrick H. O’Rourke Scholarship after being nominated by Evans Brothers Inc., Livermore, Calif.
The National Demolition Association presents three $5,000 scholarships each year to deserving students. This year’s winners were Kate Cohen of Framingham, Mass., nominated by W.K. McNamara Corp., Waltham. Mass.; Linda Aurora Carreon of Chicago, nominated by Brandenburg Industrial Service Co., Chicago; and Amanda Lloyd of Prior Lake, Minn., nominated by Lloyd’s Construction Services Inc., Savage, Minn.
The National Demolition Association is a non-profit trade organization representing more than 1,000 U.S. and Canadian companies and many international firms that are involved in the demolition process. Membership includes demolition contractors, general contractors, civil engineering firms and recycling, landfill, and salvage operations. The association’s efforts help members stay abreast of regulatory and safety matters, keep regulators informed about issues facing the industry, increase public and industry awareness, and provide members with networking opportunities and information on the latest technical advances in equipment and services.
