Jeff Hyer, a Ransome Engine first-class mechanic, recently captured Caterpillar Inc.’s “Top Gun” award for marine engine knowledge — making him number one in North America, according to Caterpillar.

The award is part of Caterpillar’s TEC Masters Top Gun Competition, which trains Cat technicians to correctly troubleshoot, diagnose and repair Cat electronic engines. The goal of the award competition is to increase the competency level of engine service technicians so Cat dealers are better able to deliver excellent service and support to their customers.

Hyer traveled to Harbour Towne Marina in Dania, FL, to compete against 19 other technicians who were originally part of a group of 211 Cat marine dealer service technicians. The Florida competition featured a 45-minute session to troubleshoot a Cat electronic engine, a written exam and a test on customer service skills.

In addition to his trip to Florida, Hyer was given a digital camera, printer, a black leather bomber jacket and a commemorative TEC Masters watch.

Ransome Engine, a division of Giles & Ransome Inc., is the authorized distributor and parts and service provider for Caterpillar generator sets, as well as truck and marine engines.
