On March 29, 2017, Riccelli-Northern's Rome, N.Y., ready mix plant became only the 5th plant to be Green-Star Certified in upstate New York and the first in central New York.
The NRMCA Green-Star Program of the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association has been designed as a means to support the efforts of the ready mixed concrete industry towards environmental excellence, through the recognition of the use of environmental management systems (EMS) as a tool for environmental benchmarking and continual improvement, and as a means to recognize those who adhere to essential principals of the environmental and sustainability movement of our industry.
Based in upstate New York, Riccelli-Northern is committed to being a good neighbor and protecting the environment. In 2016, it created and implemented an environmental quality management system for its Rome, N.Y., ready mixed concrete facility. Other plant locations, including the new ones in Cicero and Waterloo, will soon follow in the process.
The NRMCA Green-Star Program is a useful mechanism to recognize those within the industry who have achieved or are actively working towards environmental excellence and/or a demonstrable reduction of environmental impacts, following the principles of sustainability. It also will provide a formal opportunity for the recognition of those companies through a rigorous, structured certification process capable of withstanding third-party oversight.
Founded in 1930, the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA) is a leading industry advocate. Its mission is to provide exceptional value for its members by responsibly representing and serving the entire ready mixed concrete industry through leadership, promotion, education and partnering to ensure ready mixed concrete is the building material of choice.
Riccelli-Northern is an American owned and operated company that is proud to deliver American products on American soil with the help of American workers. It consists of nine ready mix concrete facilities, four blacktop plants, three concrete block plants and 50 aggregate mines in upstate New York. The company has been a leader in the Central New York marketplace since Riccelli Companies acquired Northern Ready Mix operations in 2015.
