Riverside Sand Co. Inc. of Wallace, NC, has added two new JCB 722 trucks to its equipment fleet this year and has been keeping them rolling at full speed.
They’ve proven useful in the sand quarry’s latest mission — to supply 55,000 cu. yds. of sand for a beach renourishment project.
The material will be used to replace the berms along a 7- to 8-mi. stretch of North Topsail Beach between Wilmington and Jacksonville, NC.
The JCBs, which have a capacity of 22 tons, carry the raw material from the pit to a screener, which produces the usable sand.
Vice President Wade Norris said they have contracted out the shipment of the sand from the Duplin County quarry to the job site to a firm that is using a fleet of approximately 15 trucks.
Riverside has been transitioning its fleet to JCB equipment since 1995. It now boasts 22 pieces of JCB equipment from trucks to forklifts to loaders.
In addition to sand, Riverside also mines ABC stone. CEG Staff
