A celebration of the topping out of Skymark Reston Town Center, the tallest mixed-use residential tower in the Washington, D.C., area, was held Oct. 19 in Fairfax County, Va., and attended by its builder, Clark Construction Group, along with representatives from BXP, the project's Boston-based development company.

The complex is part of the next phase of BXP's new transit-oriented development that expands Reston Town Center in northern Virginia.

SCB, a nationally known firm, is the project's architect.

When complete, the residential high-rise will deliver 464 units built over a podium containing ground-floor retail, 44 loft-style residential units, and 80,000 sq. ft. of office space across four stories. The building will also feature five levels of above- and below-grade parking.

"Clark thrives on delivering the largest and most complex projects that push the boundaries of engineering and construction," Terry Simon, division president of Clark, headquartered in nearby Bethesda, Md., said in a news release. "We look forward to the completion of another successful collaboration with long-time partner BXP to deliver this superstructure."

Since breaking ground, concrete crews from Baker Concrete Construction in Washington have placed a combined 46,000 cu. yds. of concrete to shape the 40-story tower. With this milestone complete, the team will shift its focus to completing the building envelope and interior work.

Substantial completion for Skymark is slated for early 2025.

Interior Design Gives Skymark an Elegant Look

The interior of Skymark Reston Town Center is designed by Hartman Design Group (HDG) in Rockville, Md. The studio noted on its website that it looked "to create a place where the line between outdoors and indoors blurs" and "wanted to design for the sweet spot where work and home lives blend effortlessly and employed an array of tucked-away co-working and social spots with cozy booths, private conference and tea rooms, and conversation nooks."

The company also designed dual lobbies for the East and West towers of the project. For the smaller East Tower lobby, HDG created space that includes a communal table, seating area, hospitality lounge and mail room. The larger West Tower lobby, with its Uber Lounge, concierge area, mail room, reception lounge and tearoom, will be lauded for its elegant and classic simplicity through the use of natural elements and colors enhanced by blue steel, the studio said.

Reston Town Center's expansive fifth-floor amenity suite bridges both towers. In addition to ample co-working areas, it offers everything from a sleek fitness center to a cozy fireplace lounge, all with views and connections to a spectacular outdoor terrace with a resort-style pool and deck offering plenty of extras.

From the top of each tower, residents will be able to enjoy a vista that includes both the scenic northern Virginia mountains and downtown Washington sites, including the U.S. Capitol, the National Mall and the National Cathedral.

Skymark at the Center of Vibrant Northern Virginia

The majestic Skymark is the inaugural building in the next phase of Reston Town Center, home to world-class corporations, thriving retail and exciting dining and entertainment options. The apartment tower's convenient location puts it next to the new Reston Town Center Silver Line metro station for an easy commute to Dulles Airport and Washington. Additionally, it is adjacent to the Washington and Old Dominion Railroad Regional Park and bicycle trail, and within walking distance of the vibrant hive of activity that makes up Reston Town Center.

Skymark's construction comes on the heels of the successful delivery of 1950 and 2000 Opportunity Way, the first two office buildings at the expansion of BXP's Reston Town Center. In addition to the two office towers, the 1.1 million-sq.-ft. development project includes street retail, a shared below-grade parking facility, a public plaza and multiple outdoor amenities and green spaces.

"BXP is thrilled with the progress of this iconic landmark project in Reston," said David Miller, senior vice president of construction at the company. "This achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the talented men and women who have worked tirelessly to get us to where we are today."
