Suffolk County Cleans Up Mosquito Breeding Grounds

Wed June 21, 2000 - Northeast Edition
Construction Equipment Guide

All Island Equipment recently sold a specialized Kobelco 70SR zero-tail-swing excavator to the Suffolk County, NY, Vector Control to help slow the spread of encephalitis in the metro area.

This excavator was uniquely equipped to skim out across the marshes and bogs on Long Island to clean up the mosquito breeding grounds.

The 70SR has been mounted on a specially designed over-width and over-length undercarriage, which produces low ground pressure (only 1.5 psi). This allows the machine to move across very soft swampy areas without fear of getting stuck.

The machine also was equipped with a rotating clam shell bucket and a Bear Paw thumb. The thumb was sold to All Island Equipment by National Attachments.
