Terex RS445C Reclaimer/Stabilizer Ups Breakout Forces

Construction Equipment Guide

The RS445C reclaimer/stabilizer from Terex Roadbuilding features hydrostatic planetary drive at each wheel, so the machine boasts true four-wheel drive. With no axles, flow dividers or lock differentials, the RS445C delivers the power and traction required for a wide range of applications, ranging from deep stabilization with lime slurry to a demanding reclamation cut pushing a tanker up hill. This newest addition to the 400 hp (298 kW) class of reclaimer/stabilizer increases draw-bar pull by more than 40 percent over the Terex RS425C.

The reclaimer/stabilizer’s “center-mount” cutter assembly positions the machine’s 59,000 lb. (26,762 kg) weight over the 96-in. (244 cm) cutting width to keep the rotor from riding out of the cut. Direct mechanical drive maximizes breakout force in the RS445C, delivering high production rates in tough reclamation applications, according to the manufacturer.

A three-speed cutter drive transmission with overload protection — offering speeds of 108, 151 and 209 rpm — enables the operator to match cutter speed to site conditions for optimum gradation control. The reclaimer/stabilizer’s available bidirectional rotor housing gives the RS445C up-cut or down-cut capabilities, maximizing machine versatility.

For the first time with a Terex reclaimer/stabilizer, the RS445C features a full-width cab as standard equipment. Shielding the operator from the elements, this cab includes a standard HVAC pressurized system to improve operator comfort over extended shifts. Since the cab spans the entire platform width, operators can slide the seat and control panel from side to side, enhancing visibility. The RS445C still meets height restrictions, even with the cab installed, when transported on a step-deck trailer.

Contractors who also own the larger Terex RS600c reclaimer/stabilizer have one more reason to consider the new RS445C — parts commonality. Not only does the RS445C include the same rims and tire sizes on all four corners as the RS600c, the two machines feature the same leg bearings, tires and rims from model to model. Contractors with multiple machines will have to stock fewer parts, reducing inventory costs.

The new RS445C is powered by a fuel-efficient 415 hp (309 kW) Tier III/Stage IIIA diesel engine. Its 50 in. (127 cm) diameter rotor delivers cutting depths of up to 16 in. (40 cm). The machine’s hydrostatic drive system offers infinitely variable working speeds up to 170 fpm (151.8 mpm).
