The AED Foundation announced Oct. 3, that their new Diesel Equipment Technician Certification is now available.

AED Senior Vice President Jason Blake made the announcement at the AED-EDA Workforce Development Summit in New Orleans. Since 1997, The AED Foundation has developed and revised core construction equipment technical standards that cover the six key areas of diesel engines, hydraulics and hydrostatics, electric and electronics, power trains, air conditioning and heating and safety and administration.

“To qualify for The AED Foundation Technician Certification, applicants must pass an assessment that is fully aligned with the aforementioned technical standards with a score of 70 percent or greater. The assessment consists of 160 questions in the six key areas,” said Vice President of AED Foundation Operations Steve Johnson. “The assessment has been developed by industry task forces with representation of technical experts from equipment dealers, equipment manufacturers and technical colleges.”

The AED Foundation Technician Certification offers dealers the opportunity to assess the skill level of their technicians, as well as market those technical skills to their customers. “Well-qualified and committed technicians add tremendous value to their dealerships contributing to both profitability and customer satisfaction,” said The AED Foundation President Bob Henderson. “Certification is a vehicle to identify and recognize qualifying technicians as the critically important resource of the dealer workforce."

For the individual technician, The AED Foundation Technician Certification is a professional credential from a prominent long-established industry association. Certification shows technicians' commitment to their profession and continuous learning. They can demonstrate their professional skills and knowledge to their industry and employer, and show pride in their chosen career.
