Thomas P. Durkin, 87, of Thomas M. Durkin and Sons Inc., Philadelphia, died at his home in Philadelphia on Feb. 21, 2005.

He was the husband of Ida (nee Maddock); father of Catherine Campbell (John), Patricia Golden (Edward), Joan Fraley (Daniel) and Rita Durkin; grandfather of Ronald, Lori Anne, Christine, Brian and Jennifer; great grandfather of Damien and Amber; brother of Joseph and Donald Durkin, Patricia Spanfeller, and the late Maurice and John Durkin, and Catherine McGowan.

Durkin served as president of Thomas M. Durkin and Sons for more than 50 years. The firm has specialized in highway-heavy construction in the public and private sectors since being founded in 1927 by Durkin’s father, Thomas M. Durkin.

The company remains involved in heavy highway, site development, environmental work, snow removal, and heavy equipment rentals. It is pre-qualified with the departments of transportation in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.

The viewing and celebration of Mass was held at St. Christopher Church in Philadelphia, on Feb. 25, followed by internment at Resurrection Cemetery in Bensalem, PA.
