Trailer-Mounted Attenuators Protect Workers, Motorists

Construction Equipment Guide

Barrier Systems’s U-MAD Trailer TMA units protect errant motorists who impact slow moving or stationary shadow vehicles, thus improving safety for the motorist, the support vehicle operator and shielded highway workers.

The U-MAD Trailer TMA has been engineered to keep the impacting vehicle and support vehicle in the travel lane even after angle impacts. The unique design also allows the U-MAD Trailer TMA to be reused after impact by simply replacing the cartridge with an easy to install standard U-MAD cartridge. This reduces the total cost of ownership and increases usability.

U-MAD Trailer TMAs quickly attach to a standard pintle hook, have been fully tested in accordance with National Cooperative Highway Research Program 350, and are accepted by the FHWA for use on the Federal Highway System.

U-MAD Trailer TMAs are available in two styles, TL-2 with a 45 mph (70 kmh) capacity or TL-3 with a 62 mph (100 kmh) capacity. Both offer stability in angled and offset impacts, and provide containment of vehicle to keep it from entering adjacent lanes during impact.
