UpRight Inc. has expanded its XRT scissor lift line with two electric models. Electrically powered versions of the XRT27 and XRT33 internal combustion scissors began rolling off the assembly line in August.
The XRT27E and XRT33E have the same platform capacity, vertical reach and ability to pass through double doorways as the diesel and gas-propane models, which were introduced in 1999. Along with their indoor prowess, the machines are unique among electrically powered lifts for outdoor performance.
The hands-on reviews cite the machine’s ample power, spacious platform and ability to negotiate uneven terrain found at job sites.
“It’s definitely going to have its niche,” said Randy Hall, branch manager of the Hayward, CA, branch of Horizon High Reach & Equipment, an UpRight dealer.
A 48-volt electrical system runs drive and lift functions on the XRT electrics. Eight 6-volt, 220-amp-hour batteries provide enough power to operate the machine through 12 hours of average usage before recharging. With the optional 350-amp-hour battery pack, that extends to 18 hours.
The parallel, rear-wheel drive system offers enhanced gradeability. As a result, XRT electrics drive well across uneven terrain and can easily get on and off transport truck beds. The XRT33E has a gradeability rating of 35 percent; the XRT27E provides fully 40 percent.
“They’re great for dirt work sites,” said Joe Schell, product line manager for scissor and personnel lifts at UpRight.
The maximum working height of 39 ft. (11.8 m) offered by the XRT33E affords a way to install or service electrical conduit, HVAC ducts and other items around the apex of many large warehouses and other buildings. The XRT27E provides 33 ft. (10 m) in working height, and platform capacity of up to 1,250 lbs. (566.9 kg) in workers, tools and materials.
Both XRT electric models have spacious platforms, measuring 4 ft. 10 in. wide by 10 ft. 11 in. long (1.4 by 3.3 m) — with roll-out deck fully extended.
The machines run exhaust-free, especially important for jobs in enclosed spaces. For more information, call 800/926-5438 or visit www.upright.com.
