Vermeer Manufacturing Company has expanded its mini skid steer product line with the addition of the all new S400TX, designed to meet the needs of rental centers and landscape contractors.

The S400TX, built on the platform of the Vermeer S600TX mini skid steer, is powered by a 23-hp (17 kW) Kohler Command air-cooled gas engine that offers 15 percent more horsepower than competitive models in its class, according to the manufacturer.

Rental centers will appreciate the easy-to-operate controls, which are positioned for increased performance and ease of learning. The new control system includes two joysticks integrated within a hand-grip bar that control transport and boom/bucket motion.

This design helps the operator maintain control of the machine while keeping balanced during machine operation on uneven terrain.

Safety also is considered with an operator presence system in the platform. This system locks out the machine functions if the operator steps off the platform. The operator’s platform is enclosed within the machine framework and features console cushions. This enhances operator comfort and protection while turning and maneuvering over uneven terrain.

The S400TX track undercarriage features a high-mount sprocket track-drive with a standard 7-in. (18 cm) rubber track that produces only 3.8 psi ground pressure, substantially less than the 8 psi pressure of a human foot. A 9-in. (23 cm) track option also is available.

With 6 in. (15 cm) of ground clearance, the S400TX traverses terrain better than competitive models. At only 76.5 in. (194 cm) long, 35.5 in. (88 cm) wide and 1,950 lbs. (885 kg), the unit will easily maneuver into tight spaces and weight-sensitive areas.

Despite its small stature, the S400TX features a hydraulic flow rate of 11.5 gal. (43 L) per minute, a rated operating capacity of 500 lbs. (227 kg) and a maximum lifting height of 69 in. (175 cm). The curved loader arms on the S400TX offer improved reach as the boom lifts out and up, providing more clearance to reach over truck sides.

A 7.5 gal. (28 L) fuel tank minimizes the need for fuel stops throughout the day. The operator can easily access the engine compartment and major components for routine maintenance and service. A standard quick attach plate offers numerous attachment opportunities.
