With heat indexes soaring above 100 degrees in Chicago on June 30, firefighters were called to help with a unique bridge situation.

As temperatures reached the upper 90s, the steel in the city's Michigan Avenue Bridge expanded, and the structure couldn't open to allow boats to pass through, MSN reported. Firefighters on a boat aimed their hoses at the bridge from the Chicago River for more than 30 minutes in an attempt to cool it down enough for it to open.
