Construction Equipment Guide

Yancey Bros. Co., Georgia’s Caterpillar dealer, displayed and demonstrated new machines and mower configurations at two “Mower Demo Days” for municipalities and power utilities throughout the state. A variety of Caterpillar, Fendt and Challenger machines and mowers, from light brush clearing applications to heavy woods and ditch clearing arrangements, were showcased.

Yancey also is the exclusive dealer for Challenger and Fendt agricultural and landscape tractors in Georgia, Alabama and the Florida panhandle.

Both Georgia demos drew crowds in high numbers –– approximately 85 customers and operators showed up for the Cobb County demo in October, and more than 100 people attended the Albany show in November.

Equipment on Display

Yancey demonstrated a Cat 246 skid steer loader and a Cat 247 multi-terrain loader, both equipped with Davco rotary mowers. The Davco cuts both light and heavy brush and small trees up to 6 in. (15.2 cm) in diameter.

Yancey also showed off the Cat IT14G loader equipped with a Little Industries side boom mower, which comes with a rotary or a flail-type mower head. Designed for municipalities and contractors that do right-of-way and roadside mowing, this setup will cut banks, slopes and ditches with the capability of cutting 6-in. trees and brush.

Highlighting the demos was a Fendt 926 (240 PTO HP) “reverse station” wheel tractor, equipped with a FAE UMM200 mulching head. The Fendt 926 offers the CVT Vario (clutchless transmission) with auto-cruise, which automatically slows the wheel speed of the tractor down or up depending on the density of the material in which the machine is working. The tractor’s PTO speed remains the same at all times.

The FAE forestry-mulching heads mounted on the Fendt 926 and Challenger tractors offer a variety of performance ranges. The UMM/DT200 will mulch material up to 14 in. (35.6 cm) in diameter and, with special skids, will mulch up to 3 in. (7.6 cm) below ground level. A heavy-duty version of this head will mulch material 16 in. (40.6 cm) in diameter to a depth of 6 in. below ground level.

Yancey displayed and demonstrated the Challenger MT455 tractor with a woods batwing mower, which has been popular with transportation departments for roadside mowing and also with parks and recreational departments.

Yancey also demonstrated a Challenger MT465 custom forestry tractor equipped with an FAE model FMM 200 mowing/mulching head. Equipped with a customized “woods package” built by Yancey Power Systems, the shown MT465 tractor includes a belly plate from front to rear, a front bumper, and a skid plate and grill guard. Also included in this package are limb sweeps, a steel canopy and three-sided steel screens for operator protection. The fuel tank is housed in a steel enclosure for underside protection. Additionally, the package includes Kevlar 16-ply puncture proof rear dual tires.
