Construction Equipment Guide

Bridging the gap between the ZX50U-2 compact excavator and the ZX75US-3 and ZX85USB-3 mid-sized excavators, the Hitachi ZX60USB-3 is a new ultra-short excavator with a swing boom and backfill blade. It is the perfect size for jobs along walls, guard rails, narrow roads, and tight work sites. The independent swing boom moves 80 degrees to the left and 60 degrees to the right; the boom offset is 33.5 in. (85 cm) to the right and 28 in. (71 cm) to the left.

Due to the Yanmar 4TNV98 engine which is certified to EPA interim Tier IV emission regulations, the ZX60USB-3 is durable, productive and fuel efficient. The advanced engine technologies include an exhaust gas recirculation system to reduce NOx emissions while maintaining high power; an electronic governor that adjusts fuel-injection volume and engine speed; and an isochronous control electronic governor that reduces fuel consumption and excess noise. The excavator’s overall noise level and fuel consumption also are reduced by a large 20-in. (51 cm) variable speed fan that is continuously adjusted by a linear clutch.

The cab is TOPS/ROPS/OPG designed and comes standard with air conditioning and a one-piece airtight floor. Finger-tip control, short-stroke levers reduce operator fatigue. The seat features a tall, shaped seat back, ensuring a more comfortable working environment. Tinted front and top windows, a one-piece door window, and extra glass on the lower bottom right-hand side provide increased visibility.

Just like its bigger siblings, the ZX60USB-3 uses a D-section frame skirt to increase the rigidity of the upper structure frame. A box-section stay is used at the blade for greater durability. The one-piece swing post helps reduce jerking of the swing boom. WC tungsten-carbide thermal spraying at the contact surfaces between the arm top and bucket reduces wear and jerking.

The radiator and oil cooler are arranged in parallel for easier and quicker cleaning. Waved fins and radiator front net help reduce dirt clogs and daily inspection points are strategically located for easy servicing.

The ZX60USB-3 is available with either rubber or steel tracks. A 6-ft. 1-in. (1.8 m) long arm with an additional 573-lb. (260 kg) counterweight also is an option.
