J.W. Burress Sends Sales, Service Staff Back to School

More than 50 J.W. Burress sales personnel and service managers recently converged on Richmond, VA, to become acquainted –– or reacquainted –– with the lines the Roanoke, VA-based dealership carries.

J.W. Burress staff members attended what the company calls its “university,” an intense three-day program where manufacturers have the opportunity to educate J.W. Burress staff on their lines of equipment.

“One of the reasons we developed this concept was to introduce our staff to the different manufacturers we represent,” said Bill Daly, senior vice president. “Rather than pulling salesmen out of the field at different times of the the year for training, the manufacturers come here.”

J.W. Burress has been holding its university since 1996. This year, manufacturer presentations were broken down into hour and a half classes, with 16 to 20 people attending each course. At any given time, two classes run concurrently, noted Daly. During the classes, manufacturer representatives discuss equipment line features and benefits.

“[The university] is a refresher before primary selling season,” said Daly. “It’s also an opportunity [for the staff] to see what their peers in the company are doing.”

Manufacturers represented at J.W. Burress University this year included CIFA, Daewoo, Diamond Z, Dynapac, Hitachi, Finn, Fuchs, Gradall, Kawasaki, Magnum, Moxy and Vibromax.

J.W. Burress also was presented with a number of awards:

• One of the top CIFA, Magnum, Fuchs and Daewoo dealers in the country;

• One of the top five Hitachi dealers in the country; and

• The No. 2 Finn dealer in the country.

J.W. Burress supports contractors, material producers and crane companies with heavy equipment, parts and service support. In May, the company took on the CIFA line of concrete pumper trucks. It also represents Manitowoc, Grove cranes, National Crane, Hitachi excavators, Hitachi-Euclid rigid frame haul trucks, Kawasaki wheel loaders, Dynapac compaction and paving equipment, Finn Hydroseeders, Gradall excavators, Vibromax compaction equipment, Fuchs scrap-handlers, Magnum demolition hammers, Daewoo excavators and loaders, Rogers Brothers trailers, Diamond Z grinders, Rammax, Gomaco concrete pavers, Reedrill and Driltech/Tamrock drilling equipment.
