The Michigan Infrastructure & Transportation Association's (MITA) annual conference and trade show was held at the Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort in Mount Pleasant, Mich., on Jan. 18 to 19. The theme for 2017 was “Success Despite Adversity” with this year's second day keynote speaker, Captain Mark Kelly, providing personal insights on the subject. Kelly is a retired NASA astronaut and U.S. Navy Captain, and also is the husband of former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. Captain Kelly spoke of his wife's courage as she struggled to recover after being shot during an attempted assassination. The two-day conference featured a MITA board of directors meeting and awards ceremony and included a variety of informative sessions focused on Michigan's infrastructure and opportunities in the coming year.

The trade show portion of the event featured information about the latest offerings from Michigan's leading equipment, product and service providers exhibiting at the show.

AIS Construction Equipment and CRC Contractors Rental sponsored a cocktail reception to cap off the first day's activities, Alta Equipment Company sponsored the President's Breakfast on the second day and the event wrapped up with a cocktail reception sponsored by Michigan CAT.

Established in 2005, the Michigan Infrastructure & Transportation Association is a statewide organization representing nearly 600 companies involved with Michigan's road and bridge, sewer and water, utility, railroad, excavation and specialty construction.
