Cummins South, headquartered in Atlanta, recently opened a new branch location in Gainesville, GA, at 1765 Construction Drive, just off Candler Road and a few miles from I-985.
The 11,000-sq.-ft. facility is situated on 3 acres (1.2 ha) and houses four shop bays, as well as sales offices, a parts counter and parts warehousing.
It also features an exterior trailer which houses state-of-the-art equipment for engine diagnostics on over-the-road trucks with electronic engines. This diagnostic machine can be hooked up to a truck in a matter of minutes giving a thorough diagnosis of an engine in approximately 10 minutes, virtually eliminating a lengthy waiting period for the truck owner.
Turning this new branch from a concept to a reality was a Cummins South team effort headed up by company President Mark McGahan and Executive VP-Operations Geoff Walker. Responsible for the day to day operations of this location is Branch Manager Dave Darby.
Team leader for engine and equipment diagnostics is Ray Wilkerson, who transferred from the Cummins South University Avenue location and has more than 32 years of experience in the engine industry.
Heading up the parts department is David Pennington, and the Cummins trained technicians at the Gainesville location include: Ben Dougherty, Gary Freas, Ferrol Collins, Forrest Barrett, William Swanson, Tyra Cantrell and Danny Chambers.
According to Walker, “This is an opportunity to capitalize on servicing the North Georgia area where we saw a need for a dedicated location for servicing heavy-duty trucks, RVs, power generators and construction and industrial equipment. The staff is extremely qualified and the facility we chose to occupy is a great asset to us.”
This facility also provides service to line boring equipment and associated systems as well as air conditioning and hydraulic systems and welding and custom fabrication services. The proximity to Lake Lanier will enhance the marine service opportunities for this branch. The poultry business as well as other businesses and residences will benefit from Cummins South generator and gen set expertise.
Walker added that “The mining and construction equipment customers will benefit from our highly trained, skilled field service technicians who take the latest in service diagnostic tooling equipment, which encompasses entire systems, to our customers in the field for various makes of equipment including Volvo, Hitachi and Euclid. Our technicians also have the capability of tapping directly into the Cummins computer diagnostics systems, which includes the Cummins trademarked ’QuickServe’ mobile service program, which is a nationwide system that enhances field service capabilities and gives a unique service experience that keeps our customers coming back.”
McGahan echoed the thoughts of Walker and noted that, “We have 28 years of experience at Cummins South and we’re a company that delivers on what we promise. Our overall service has consistently achieved high ratings from our customers in service ratings. This is a great opportunity for us to expand on our success.”
This facility is Cummins South’s seventh branch location. Others include two in Atlanta, GA; and one in Chattanooga, TN; and Augusta, Albany and Savannah, GA.
