Holt Texas LTD (Holt CAT), the largest Caterpillar dealership in the United States, is taking steps to retain and expand its corporate headquarters campus in San Antonio’s District 3.
While the Holt CAT project remains in the early stages of development, the city of San Antonio and Bexar County are in the process of finalizing incentive agreements with the company.
City Council will vote on an incentive package consisting of a 10-year, 100 percent tax abatement on at least a $20.2 million real and personal property investment. This incentive will aid in creating and retaining 195 total corporate headquarter jobs. Holt CAT employs 642 total employees in San Antonio.
“San Antonio has been our home for many decades and thanks to the city and county, it will continue to be for years to come,” said Dave Harris, president and chief operating officer of Holt CAT.
“Holt CAT has a long-standing history with San Antonio in corporate responsibility, investment, and notable corporate citizenship,” said city of San Antonio Mayor Ivy Taylor. “Retaining and continuing to foster the growth of companies like Holt CAT in our city is key to our economic development strategy’s business retention and expansion program.”
“Holt CAT has been a leader in developing job training opportunities for Bexar County residents. Their commitment to the Alamo Academies is commendable, and they are also teaming up with other local corporations and school districts to guide young people toward the outstanding career opportunities available at Holt CAT,” said county Judge Nelson Wolff.
“On behalf of the citizens of District 3, it is an honor to continue to have this company stay true to its roots within our district,” said District 3 Councilwoman Rebecca Viagran. “We are very proud to be home to the largest Caterpillar dealership in the nation, as we recognize the importance of Holt CAT’s impact throughout the great state of Texas and the U.S.”
In addition to its corporate headquarters, Holt CAT operates in 118 counties in Texas, including a large presence in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Nonetheless, Holt CAT decided to stay firm to its roots and expand in San Antonio, its home since the company’s founding in 1933.
“Our significant financial interests in other parts of Texas made this a challenging decision, but we believe we’ve made the right one. With the assistance of our partners in local government, we look forward to building a first-class corporate campus that all of San Antonio will be proud of,” added Harris.
“Headquarter expansions, particularly those that are homegrown, are an economic development target for the city” said City Manager Sheryl Sculley, “This expansion promotes local growth and exemplifies our continued commitment to business retention and expansion.”
“This important announcement represents 45 new, good jobs for San Antonio, and tens of millions of dollars in new capital investment toward an 85,000-square-foot corporate headquarters,” said San Antonio Economic Development Foundation Chairman Steve Waters. “But more than that, Holt CAT’s decision to continue investing in San Antonio, to stay and grow here, sends a strong message about the strength and vitality of our city and its culture of business, and demonstrates the success of the community’s Business Retention and Expansion Program, led by the San Antonio Economic Development Foundation.”
