Construction Equipment Guide

Komatsu America Corp.’s PC55MR EPA Tier IV Final compact hydraulic excavator is designed to provide increased versatility, improved operator comfort and lower operating costs for contractors working in a variety of construction, utility, landscaping and other excavation applications.

The PC55MR has an operating rate between 11,330 lbs. (5,150 kg) and 12,750 lbs. (5,795 kg). The excavator is powered by a 38.0 net hp (28.3 kW) SAA4D88E-7 engine that is EPA Tier IV Final emission certified. A new auto decelerator and economy mode help reduce operating costs.

The PC55MR is equipped with KOMTRAX remote monitoring technology, which sends machine operating information to a secure Web site or smart phone application utilizing wireless technology. Data such as fuel level, operating hours, location, cautions and maintenance alerts are relayed to the web application for analysis. The KOMTRAX fleet monitoring system helps increase machine availability, reduces the risk of machine theft, allows for remote diagnosis by the distributor, and provides a wealth of other information to drive business efficiency and productivity.

EPA Tier IV Final Emissions Certified Engine

The PC55MR-10 uses an EPA Tier IV Final emissions certified engine. The SAA4D88E-7 engine uses exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and a high pressure common rail fuel injection system to reduce NOx. For after treatment, a diesel particulate filter (DPF) is used, eliminating the need for AdBlue/DEF injection. Additionally, an advanced electronic control system is utilized to manage airflow rate, fuel injection and combustion parameters.

Versatility

The PC55MR features a maximum digging depth of 12 ft. 6 in. (3.8 m) and a maximum reach of 19 ft. 11 in. (6 m). The excavator is equipped with a “swing boom” with single large diameter swing pin for long life and durability of the boom swing mechanism. The swing boom enables the PC55MR to work in confined spaces.

The standard auxiliary hydraulic system flow of 18.5 gpm (70 Lpm) can be easily changed from single direction flow to bi-directional flow for superior hydraulic attachment productivity. Bucket thumb mounting bracket, auxiliary piping for attachments and a 6 ft. 6 in. (1.9 m) blade is standard. An optional power angle blade allows the operator to angle the blade 25 degrees to the right or left, increasing the excavator’s productivity. The power angle blade is especially useful when backfilling trenches.

The PC55MR offers the choice of rubber tracks or the Komatsu Road-Liner track system.

Operator Comfort

The spacious ROPS certified cab or ROPS canopy provides a comfortable environment to help operators maximize productivity. A suspension high back seat is provided for improved comfort. A new high resolution 3.5 in. LCD monitor features enhanced capabilities and displays useful information for the operator.

The PC55MR is equipped with an easy to access standard control pattern change valve so the operator can choose either “backhoe” style or “ISO” style controls to match personal preference.

Service and Maintenance

A tilt-up operator compartment provides easy access to hydraulic and engine components. To simplify maintenance, access for daily inspections is enhanced by the wide-opening engine hood and right-side service door. The X-frame car body design provides maximum strength and helps prevent mud and debris build-up, saving the operator valuable time when cleaning the machine.

Peace of Mind

All Komatsu Tier IV machines come with Komatsu Care. Komatsu CARE provides complimentary scheduled maintenance for the first three years or 2,000 hours (whichever occurs first.) It also includes a 50-point inspection at each service.
