Pottsville Materials has opened its new asphalt plant at the company’s Darkwater Road quarry facility. Start up of this plant at Pottsville Materials brings the addition of both hot and warm mix asphalt products to the existing array of construction aggregate products offered at this facility.

Installed over a six-month period, Pottsville Materials’ new Astec plant features three 300 ton (272 t) storage silos, and is capable of delivering all of the latest mix designs including Superpave and both hot and warm-mix asphalt at operating rates as high as 400 ton per hour (363 t). Further, the plant is equipped with the latest recycled asphalt pavement (RAP) feed technology that will enable the plant to produce mix designs with higher RAP content, further boasting the “green appeal” of this “environmentally friendly” plant, according to the company.

When asked to comment on the new asphalt plant facility at Pottsville Materials, John R. Kibblehouse, Jr., partner in the venture said, “We are extremely pleased to have entered the Schuylkill County regional asphalt market. With this new facility, we will be able to service not only large-scale paving and overlay projects throughout the five county area, but also smaller private and municipal projects as well. This Astec plant has great versatility and it is our hope that it will soon become the region’s source for hot and warm-mix asphalt.”

Pottsville Materials offers a full line of Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) approved construction aggregate materials. Pottsville Materials also stocks a large inventory of top grade, screened topsoil that is available for both individual sale and bulk order.

Pottsville Materials is located just north of Pottsville, Pa., on Darkwater Road, just minutes from the intersection of State Route 61 and Interstate 81. From this location, Pottsville can serve Schuylkill, Berks, Northumberland, Lehigh, and Carbon counties.
